Pretty Cool, I Guess

On average, I listen to about 40 hours of CBC Radio 3 a week, while at work doing a shit load of nothing. This station seriously helps get me through my long day of, once again, doing NOTHING. A few months back, they were frequently playing the song "You're Too Cool" by The Zolas. I had never heard of this band before but the first time I heard this particular song I fell completely in love with it.

The Zolas are from Vancouver,BC and were recently signed to 604 records. Yes, take a minute to laugh about that, 604 Records, the production company owned by none other then Canada's biggest douche bag Chad Kroeger. I checked out the artists signed to 604 and yep, safe to say that The Zolas' are easily the most talented band on there.

I'll be flying out to Kelowna, BC tomorrow to visit my best friend and to check out a number of shows taking place for Break Out West Festival. The Zolas are playing two shows over the course of the weekend and I'll be attending at least one of them. Very, very stoked!

Chiddy Be Bangin'

I tried to buy the new Chiddy Bang EP the other day and apparently the release date got pushed back or something, whatever I'm just bummed I don't own a physical copy yet. I really respect what these two 20 year olds are doing. They fuze great recognizable samples with powerful drums and the outcome is a treat for the ears. I hope they blow upm they deserve it! Super cool stuff. If you don't own "Chiddy Bang: The Preview" yet, get on that and in the mean time it's streaming at http://www.muchmusic.com/music/firstspin/chiddybang/ now!

Double Denim

This is probably the only man that can get away with denim on denim.

Oh and him too...obviously.

More Great Canadian Music

Tonight I'm going to see Library Voices with specials guests: Paper Lions and Bend Sinister. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of Library Voices or Bend Sinister (they're great but just not for me) but I had the opportunity to see Paper Lions a few months back (opening for The Spill Canvas) and I was completely blown away by how awesome they were live! My favorite and only hippie friend of mine (Avery) are gonna catch them play The Royal Albert tonight and I am quite excited. Fingers crossed they breifly cover Queen again!

Check out the video for their latest single, "Lost the War", off their new EP "Trophies" below.

Everyone Working At Maxim Should Be Fired

Avril Lavigne is covering next month's issue of Maxim Magazine and I still have no fucking idea why. Well according to Maxim she's "Rock's Sexiest Bad Girl" but that couldn't be further from the truth. I'm also wondering if Avril Lavigne has even done anything relevant in the past year or so. Oh ya she had that awful song that was played during the credits of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and a few perfumes but still.

Avril Lavigne has been featured on the cover of Maxim three unnecessary times now, and even scarier than that I have been to three Avril Lavigne concerts in my life. I attented the concerts for free but still....can't even believe I just said that but then again NO ONE reads this blog so the secret still safe. Anyways, it's quite apparent that Maxim really does not understand the word "sexy" or "rock". Hey Maxim, go check out the new issue of Esquire Magazine with Minka Kelly on the cover, they know whats up.

This is not sexy, should not have happened.

Also not sexy, also should not have happened.

He WAS sexy and then this happened.

Brody should also look into cutting this shit out too. Big Mistake.

3 Bands for 15 Bucks

Last night I went to see Toronto's The Wooden Sky at the West End Cultural Center. They were joined by Kelowna's Yukon Blonde and former Means member Matthew Goud, more commonly known as "Northcote". All of the bands on the bill blew me away and I honestly was not expected everyone to sound as good as they did. The Wooden Sky played a lenghty set and then headed out to the lobby to play three more songs, actostic/sing-a-long style. It was a great night, spent with two great friends and in my opinion; three bands for 15 bones is a complete steal. I almost feel guilty about it. I spent more on beer than I did on my ticket.

The Wooden Sky performing "The Wooden Sky" (My favorite song of theirs) in someone's living room. Shit, I wish they would play a set in my living room. Enjoy!

Brandon Flowers has released a 2nd single/video off of his Solo debut "Flamingo" and I couldn't be less stoked on it, however the video is beautiful and was directed by Sophie Miller who has also worked with The Cure & No Doubt. Check out the video below.

Break Out West & Jo Jess

In about two weeks time I will be heading out to Kelowna, BC to visit my BFF (Jo Jessica) as well as attending the The Break Out West Festival. The Festival is taking place over 4 days, stretching from Oct. 21-24, needless to say Jess and I are gonna party! Very stoked to see We Are The City, Said the Whale, The Zolas, Aidan Knight, The Dudes, Treelines, & Library Voices just to name a few, but mainly I am pumped to see my Jess. I haven't seen her since my birthday back in March. Shit is gonna get crazy! This trip is sure to be short but very fucking sweet! xoxo

Below is a video of Said the Whale, The Zolas, & We Are The City performing a cover of Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" last August. Now if only Arcade Fire were playing Break Out West...damn!

BOOM! HA!

I've been hearing this song on http://www.radio3.cbc.ca . It's probably the worst song to listen to while being bored to death at work, really just makes me want to party. Anyways check it out, it's by Smalltown Romeo featuring Shad. Party!

Friday, October 1, 2010

I'm 22 minutes away from the weekend and that means; retail therapy, Ryan Gosling movie watching time, Hey Rosetta! & Hot Hot Heat show tomorrow, & The Social Network with my main man Justin Timberlake on Sunday. I'd also like to fit some drinks with some good friends for some good times, in there too! In the mean time, check out Hey Rosetta!

"Red Heart" is by far my most favorite Hey Rosetta song! So good, good for car rides with loud friends! Support Canadian music! It's the best!

Real Talk, Fake Problems

This past month I saw Florida's Fake Problems are they supported Jersey's The Gaslight Anthem on tour. They put on an awesome set and are amazing live. If you get the chance to check em' out, I urge you to do so! Very cool stuff!

They also covered Blink 182's Dammit at a recent Vancouver show with Gaslight's frontman Brian Fallon and although the singer is at times a little much too handle and quite obnoxious, I'm still 100% down with him. Still a mega babe and mega talented. Enjoy!

Kingston Rossdale: All Other Kids, Be Jealous

If you're not familiar with Kingston Rossdale...well be proud of yourself, you obviously have a life, however I sadly do not and therefore have a lot of time on my hands to familiarize myself with the children of celebrities. Yep, Kingston Rossdale is the barely five year old son of No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani and Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. If Michael Jackson were still alive, he'd be all over this kid...joking! I'm just joking of course, much love MJ. Seriously though, if I could babysit this kid for a living, I would. We could dress up in ridiculous and scream at the paparazzi all day together. Ohh to be five again.

Actually not just kids, but everyone should be jealous, I mean was your dad in Bush? No you say? That's what I thought.

Best Coast

A few months ago a friend told me to listen to a band from Cali called "Best Coast", at the time I had never heard of them, fast-forward to now and I literally hear their music EVERYWHERE! They're even featured in a super cool new Converse commericial alongside mega babe Kid Cudi. Anyways put on your thick-rimmed glasses and check out their "indie-pop" hit "When I'm With You".
